Become a Blue Skies Volunteer
Blue Skies is looking for dedicated individuals to join our incredible team of volunteers and help enhance patient care across Blackpool, Fylde, and Wyre. Volunteering is a truly rewarding way for the community to get involved with their local NHS charity, providing that extra layer of support and comfort that makes a world of difference to patients, their families, and hospital staff. Our volunteers do amazing work in various capacities, from representing Blue Skies in our shop and trolley service to assisting at our many charity events throughout the year.
A vital part of our mission involves running essential retail services at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and we are currently looking for friendly faces to help staff these areas. We operate two distinct shops: our Cardiac shop and our OPD shop, both of which serve as welcoming hubs for visitors and staff to grab essentials and a good bargain. Complementing these shops is our popular mobile trolley service, which brings the shop directly to the wards. This service is a lifeline for patients who may not be able to leave their beds, providing them with snacks, drinks, and other treats, offering a much-needed moment of social interaction during their hospital stay.

For most of these roles, we typically ask for a weekly commitment of at least three hours, though this can vary depending on the specific position. The impact of this time is enormous as last year alone, our team clocked up an incredible 8,100 hours of service. To join us, the recruitment process begins with an online application form submitted through Voluntary Services. Following this, we will invite you in for an informal interview to get to know you better and introduce you to the wider charity team. As part of our commitment to safety, we require Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) clearance for all volunteers who interact with children or vulnerable adults. You may also need to complete a work health assessment through our Occupational Health Department to ensure your own wellbeing is supported while you help others. This might involve a conversation with a physician or receiving specific vaccinations if required. If you are ready to make a meaningful impact in your local community and help us keep our shops and trolleys running, please click the apply here button to begin your application and become a Blue Skies volunteer today.
